Cannon Ball Run Rpeort

Cannon Ball Run, Spot Valley’s first race of the Race of Champions series for 2005, was run at the raceway in Rose Hall St. James on Sunday, January 30, closing out a weekend of activity in the second city of Montego Bay.

The crowds all seemed to have overslept after Air Jamaica’s Jazz and Blues festival, as the spectator turnout was not as expected, but for those who came it they were thrilled by the track record setting pace of Douglas “Hollywood” Gore as he showed complete mastery of his Motor Sales and Service/Slam Condoms/DMS Distributors/ Rick’s Café/Walkerswood Foods /Value Buys/Amsoil Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8, achieving a 2:52 time both in the forward and reverse direction over three laps when the track was run in reverse for the championship run. Placing second overall was Gore’s Team Mobay Racing teammate Guy “Feather” Fraser in the Value Buys Subaru Impreza WRX in a time of 2.56.70 while third was John “Big John” Ralston in the Tank Weld Equipment/Advance Auto Parts Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6, posting a best time of 2.57.24.

Dave Lee in his Mitsubishi Lancer evolution III better known as the Bush Tiger got the better of Junior Barnes in the West Med Pharmaceuticals/Mekyah Spring Water Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution V, posting a best time of 2.59.39 to Barnes 3.01.78.

Dean “Duct Tape” Corrodus enjoyed his day so much that he decided to post the fastest front wheel drive time of the day as well as romping to the class win of the JA3 class, with a best time of 3.08.15 in his Brothers Motors/Performance Centre/Mr. A/C / Straight Edge Construction Mitsubishi Mirage RS. Andre Weatherly was second in class with a time of 3.10.98 in another Mirage RS sponsored by West Med Pharmaceuticals /Mekyah Spring Water, while Keith Saunders was third in class in his Chevrolet Chevette sponsored by Manhattan House, Matilda’s Corner Wrecking and Parade Fashions.

The JA2 class was the forte of James “Doc” March in the Team Mobay Racing Toyota Corolla FX20, posting a 3.12.01 to put Maurice Whittingham Jr. in the Racing Skill prepared Toyota Starlet in second (3.16.52) and Christopher “Teach” McFarlane in the Spot Valley Raceway Toyota Corolla SR5 in third (3.21.64), Teach being a quick learner in the rear wheel drive platform.

JA1 was won by Noel Golding Jr. (3.16.67) with his dad Noel Golding Snr. in second (3.21.74), both sharing the GRD racing Suzuki Swift Gti. Patrick Gore got the better of Ivan Lee sharing the same car in the JC1 class, posting a best 3.14.44 to Lee’s 3.19.18.

The event was sponsored by Pharmaton Natural health products (nature and science in harmony) and Ginsana, energy and vitality for every stage of your life. The next event on the calendar will be the Bearings and Seals/EML Windshield Centre Tarmac Sprint #1 to be held at Ironshore on Sunday, February 6, 2005.
